Colin Smith came to UNC Asheville after 15 years as a member of Missouri Valley College Athletics Department, serving as an athletics administrator for the last 11 years, becoming the school's Associate Athletic Director & Director of Game-Day Operations & Director of Diversity & Inclusion in 2019.

"We are excited to announce that Colin Smith will be joining our Bulldog Team as our first-ever Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations and Equity, stated Janet R. Cone, Director of Athletics. He brings a wealth of experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and programming, leading and managing game day operations, and assisting in the day-to-day operations of an athletics department. Having been a successful student-athlete, he will be an immediate positive role model for our Bulldogs, too."

"I am extremely excited and humbled to join the University of North Carolina Asheville family at this pivotal moment in collegiate athletics," Smith said. "I would like to thank Chancellor Nancy J. Cable & Senior Administrator for University Enterprises and Director of Athletics Janet Cone for this amazing opportunity."

In addition to overseeing all game-day operations, Smith helped manage the budget, serve on various committees and represented Missouri Valley College Athletics on numerous capital campaigns as well as building and grounds renovations. Taking on the role of Director of Diversity & Inclusion, Smith promoted the values of the College with regards to diversity, equity and inclusion to serve the Missouri Valley College student-athletes, staff and faculty. On top of his game day and diversity responsibilities, Smith was the President of the Missouri Valley College Alumni Advancement Board and a voting member of the Missouri Valley College Board of Trustees.

Smith first arrived at Missouri Valley College back in 2006 as a student-athlete on the football team for four eras. The St. Louis native was a two-time all-conference honoree and season captain whose 2006 team was inducted into the Missouri Valley College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019.

Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nonprofit Management & Leadership, Smith would work as a graduate assistant for sports information and football, attaining his master's in school administration from Lindenwood University in 2012. Smith would earn a full-time job at Missouri Valley in 2012, being elevated to Assistant AD and Director of Game-Day Operations in 2014. In 2019, Smith was promoted to Associate Athletic Director of Game-Day Operations & Director of Diversity & Inclusion.

"I look forward to joining an incredible roster of coaches, staff & faculty in Asheville on this collaborative mission to help our Bulldogs achieve at the highest level," said Smith. "At the same time, I would like to add to your recent successes in student-athlete health care, diversity, equity & inclusion, and student-athlete academic achievement."
