THE WILMA M. SHERRILL CENTER

Home of the N.C. Center for Health & Wellness and the Kimmel Arena

The building was named after Wilma M. Sherrill, in honor of her advocacy for the health and wellbeing of children and families. Construction began in 2009, and the building was fully functional by fall of 2011.

SIZE: 133,500 square feet.

COST: $41 million. $35 million state appropriation and $6 million in private gifts and grants.

BUILDING FEATURES: Classrooms, labs, fitness rooms, a wellness cafe, and demonstration kitchen.

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH & WELLNESS: One of the fastest growing majors for UNC Asheville undergraduates.

N.C. CENTER FOR HEALTH & WELLNESS: Statewide resource for health and wellness professionals focusing on prevention.

KIMMEL ARENA: Multipurpose convocation facility seating up to 3,800 and home of NCAA Division I UNC Asheville Bulldog Basketball.

SHERRILL CENTER LAYOUT:

The upper level of the Sherrill Center features the Kimmel Arena, Mountain View Performing Arts Room, Scholarship Deck, Meditation Room, and several classrooms. These rooms are available to rent for concerts, meetings, expos, conferences, and banquets.
