Mike Gore's "40-for-40" Introduction

Â
The UNC Asheville Athletics Department has graciously agreed to allow me to share some of my memories over the past 40 years of Bulldog athletics.
This year will be my 40th involved with UNC Asheville athletics. I started at the young age of 23 in the summer of 1986 as the school's Sports Information Director and Promotions Director. I managed to work full-time at UNC Asheville for close to 30 years before retiring back in April of 2015. Athletics Director Janet Cone and her staff have allowed me to hang around since then. I have been a contributor to the website, helped with the UNC Asheville Athletics Hall of Fame and been a part of Bulldog radio broadcasts for men's and women's basketball.Â
It has been a lot of fun watching our student-athletes compete across the board and working with great coaches and administrators during that time. My plan is to share some of my memories over the next athletic year. Some will be great games that I remember. Some will talk about individuals, either coaches or student-athletes. And some will just be great memories.
I hope you will enjoy these stories as much as I will enjoy telling them. It's hard to believe that this will be the 40th year of competition on the Division I level for UNC Asheville. When we made the move, many doubted we could compete successfully. That notion was proved wrong many years ago as our Bulldog teams have won championships and competed in NCAA Tournaments, but most of all have produced amazing student-athletes who have made our world a better place.Â
I'm calling this series 40-for-40. My first memory will be out very shortly.
Go Bulldogs!!!
