Men’s Basketball Adds FAU Transfer Jakel Powell

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's basketball head coach Mike Morrell announced on Monday (May 5) the addition of transfer guard Jakel Powell to the 2025-26 roster.
"We are thrilled to welcome Jakel to the program," said Morrell. "He comes from a winning history at FAU and will be a great addition to our team."
The 6-5 guard attended Raleigh Christian before starting college at FAU. Powell redshirted during the 2023-24 season and did not participate during the 2024-25 season. Powell comes to Asheville with four years of eligibility.
The Raleigh, N.C. native played in 31 games during his senior year of high school and averaged 16.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.1 steals per game.
Before transferring to Raleigh Christian for the 2022-23 season, Powell played at the Burlington School, where he won a State Championship in 2022.
