Bulldog Trio Competes at Wake Forest Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Adam Hessler, Paul Kirptotich, and Jan Málek represented the UNC Asheville track and field team at the Wake Forest Invitational this Thursday and Friday, April 17-18.
In the men's 5,000m open, Paul Kiprotich finished just 1.1 seconds off Asheville's school record mark, entering at No. 2 in program records with a personal best of 14:20.26, placing 13th overall. The current record-holding time of 14:19.26 was set in 2007 by Taylor Little.
Behind Kiprotich, Adam Hessler placed 26th in 14:24.69, his fastest outdoor 5,000m mark collegiately and No. 3 in program records. Hessler held the previous No. 2 spot at 14:29.92, set at the 2022 Georgia Tech Invitational.
Jan Málek represented Asheville in the men's 3,000m steeplechase invite, crossing the line in the second fastest time in school history in 9:02.77, just 4.74 seconds off his school record mark of 8:58.03, set at the Raleigh Relays on March 28th.
