RALEIGH, N.C. - Jan Málek, Adam Hessler, and Paul Kiprotich represented the UNC Asheville track and field team on Thursday, March 27, as the trio competed in the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State.
In his second meet of the 2025 outdoor season, Málek broke yet another school record, this time in the 3,000m Steeple. Málek dropped the school record to 8:58.03, breaking the nine-minute mark. His time earned him the heat win and 30th place overall. The previous record was held by Dave Bell at 9:06.08, set almost two decades ago in 2006. Málek entered this season at No. 2 in program records and improved his time by 8.6 seconds with his finish today.
Hessler and Kiprotich followed in the 10,000m, with the duo running the top two fastest times in program history. Hessler reset his school record in the men's 10,000m, knocking a monumental 21 seconds off his previous record to set the new top mark at 29:38.51, and placed 81st overall.
