UNC Asheville’s Janet R. Cone Appointed to NCAA Division I Membership Committee

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Membership Committee, effective September 20, 2025, through August 31, 2027.
The NCAA Division I Membership Committee oversees and manages membership-related matters, including the reclassification process and requirements for active Division I institutions and conferences. The committee plays a vital role in ensuring Division I athletics' continued growth and integrity nationwide.
"I am honored to represent UNC Asheville and the Big South Conference on the NCAA Division I Membership Committee," said Cone. "This appointment provides an opportunity to contribute to important national discussions surrounding the future of Division I membership and to help ensure a fair, forward-thinking structure that benefits student-athletes and institutions alike."
Cone's selection adds to her extensive history of leadership and service within collegiate athletics. During her tenure at UNC Asheville, she has served on numerous NCAA and conference committees, demonstrating a continued commitment to advancing the student-athlete experience and the mission of higher education through sport.
