Bulldogs Celebrate Senior Day with 163-99 Victory over Campbell

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Swimming and Diving celebrated Senior Day with a 163-99 victory over Campbell on Saturday (Jan. 18) inside the Justice Center, extending the team's winning streak at home to 14 in a row dating back to Oct. 2020.
 
Asheville began the day picking up points with second and third-place finishes in the 200 medley relay. The A squad of Savanna Bush, Alyssa Jackson, Caroline Crouse and Beatrice Cocconcelli took second in 1:50.64, while the squad of Danai Gkogkosi, Gracelyn Cox, Andie Quisumbing and Ava Kilpatrick took third in 1:52.00. Asheville earned six total team points from the 1000 free as Kathryn Walters took third in 11:10.58, Celine Petruschke placed fourth in 11:12.50 and Rose Sciaudone took fifth in 11:20.62. Anna Marcotti would pick up nine points and Asheville's first win of the day in the 200 free in 1:56.59, while Gkogkosi picked up four points with a second-place finish in 2:01.89. Kilpatrick also picked up two points with a fourth-place finish in 2:02.26. Bush would earn Asheville's second win of the day and another nine team points with a win in the 100 back in 59.74 seconds, while Julie Lahiff picked up three points with a third-place finish in 1:02.24. Amelia Presley also picked up the last team point in the event with a fifth-place finish in 1:03.83. Asheville would also pick up points in the 100 breast with a win from Jackson in 1:06.42, while Cocconcelli earned three points with a third-place finish in 1:08.03 and Crouse picked up the last point in the event with a fifth-place finish in 1:10.15.
 
Asheville would go on to collect 16 team points in the 200 fly with a win along with second and third-place finishes. Edmundson took the win in 2:08.00, while Taylor Smith finished second in 2:09.47 and Tess Peny took third in 2:19.35. The Bulldogs would pick up another 12 points in the 50 free with Marcotti's second win of the day in 24.61 seconds, while Olivia Ciancimino finished third for three points in 24.99 seconds and Caitlin Hefner grabbed two points with a fourth-place finish in 25.33 seconds. The Bulldogs would pick up another 16 points sweeping the top three spots in the 100 free with a win from Hefner in 53.83 seconds, a second-place finish from Cocconcelli in 54.03 seconds and a third-place finish from Jackson in 55.89 seconds. Asheville would go on to collect 14 points in the 200 back with a win from Grace Adams in 2:08.79 for nine points, while Bush finished second for four points in 2:10.26 and Peny finished fifth for the last point in 2:19.20. Asheville would collect another eight points in the 200 breast with a second-place finish from Anna Kate Halligan in 2:27.75, a third-place finish from Cox in 2:32.56 and a fifth-place finish from Sciaudone in 2:39.19.
 
Asheville would collect eight points in the 500 free with Gkogkosi collecting four points in second place in 5:27.84, Petruschke in third place for three points in 5:30.03 and Walters in fifth for the last point in 5:34.98. The Bulldogs collected another 16 points in the 100 fly, sweeping the top three spots in the event. Smith won the event for nine points in 58.06 seconds, while Edmundson earned second place for four points in 58.40 seconds and Chloe McDonald took third for three points in 59.58 seconds. The Bulldogs would pick up another seven points in the 100 IM with Crouse earning four points in second place in 1:02.30, while Lahiff took fourth for two points in 1:02.91 and Smith picked up the last point in fifth in 1:03.15. Asheville collected another 11 points with a win in the 400 free relay, with the quartet of Hefner, Cocconcelli, Jackson and Marcotti posting the win in 3:38.34.
 
"What a great first and last home meet of the season!" said head coach Elizabeth Lykins. "The Seniors got an opportunity to shine, and everyone has exhibited such resilience this year. We are so proud of our Bulldogs who fought and raced in every event against a formidable Campbell team. We can't wait to take the momentum from this win into the final stretch of our season and have a strong ASUN championship!"
 
The Bulldogs (3-2) return to the water on Friday, Jan. 31 to take on Liberty and Campbell in a double-dual. The action begins at 4:00 p.m. from Lynchburg, Va.
