Cross Country Earns Three Big South Weekly Honors

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Following a superb performance at the Furman Invitational last Saturday (Sept. 14), the UNC Asheville cross country team earn a trio of this week's Big South Conference weekly honors. Senior Adam Hessler was named the Big South Conference Men's Runner of the Week, while Addi Corl and Paul Kiprotich swept this week's Big South Conference Freshman of the Week weekly honors. The league made the announcement on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
Hessler finished eighth out of 113 runners at last Saturday's meet. He set a new personal record in the 6K of 18:08.5, leading the Bulldogs to a third-place finish overall. This is Hessler's fourth runner of the week honor.
Kiprotich was the fastest freshman of the field, securing an 11th-place finish with his time of 18:20.5. He was the second-fastest male Bulldog of the day, contributing nine points to Asheville's 93 point team total in his collegiate debut.
In her first collegiate 6k, Corl finished 37th out of 104 runners in the women's race. She was the fastest freshman from the Big South Conference and tenth fastest freshman overall on the course. She secured a personal best time of 23:17.7, coming in as the second-fastest Bulldog on the women's side. She helped the team to a fourth-place finish with 147 points.
The Bulldogs will compete again on Saturday Sept. 21 when they travel to Brevard, N.C., to compete in the Brevard Invitational.
