UNC Asheville Athletics Set to Host Run Jump Throw Event Oct. 19

09.17.2024 | General, Athletics News

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Athletics is set to host a Run Jump Throw event sanctioned by USA Track & Field and sponsored by First Bank and Explore Asheville on Saturday, October 19.

"On the heels of the Summer Olympics in Paris, we are excited to bring the Run Jump Throw event to our campus and our community," said Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone. "It is a great way to showcase our new outdoor track, introduce track and field to our local youth, and engage our student-athletes and coaches with the greater Asheville community."

USA Track & Field's RunJumpThrow is a hands-on learning program that gets kids excited about physical activity by introducing them to the basic running, jumping, and throwing skills through track & field. The Run Jump Throw event replaces the annual UNC Asheville Sportsfest and will take place Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024 from 10 AM – 12 PM on the Karl Straus Track on the campus of UNC Asheville. This free event is for kids ages 7-12 who will enjoy a fun morning of physical activity. Participants will receive a swag bag courtesy of USA Track & Field as well.

"Teaming up with UNC Asheville Athletics and USA Track & Field to inspire our young people at this hand-on event is a joy," added Vic Isley, President & CEO for Explore Asheville and the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority. "Enabling these kinds of opportunities for our community is one of the reasons we were proud $1.5 million investors in the renovation of UNC Asheville's Karl Straus Track."

All participants must register by submitting a completed waiver (see link below) to Dani Nicosia (dnicosia@unca.edu) prior to Oct. 2, 2024.
