Three UNC Asheville Track and Field Athletes Earn College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Honors

FULL COLLEGE SPORTS COMMUNICATORS RELEASE

GREENWOOD, Ind. - Recent UNC Asheville track and field graduates Brianna Moore, Zac Weas and Raina Jackson have all earned Academic All-District® honors from College Sports Communicators, announced by the organization today (Tuesday, June 18).

To qualify, a student-athlete must:
·        Be at least a sophomore both athletically and academically
·        Maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50
·        Finish in the Top 50 in their respective region in a single event, excluding relays.

Moore had a standout senior season on the track for Asheville, becoming the program's third-ever NCAA qualifier. Moore finished the year ranked No. 30 in the Southeast region in the indoor long jump, No. 15 in the region in the outdoor long jump and No. 23 in the region in the outdoor javelin. She posted a pair of individual conference championships in the long jump at both the Big South Conference Indoor Championships and Big South Conference Outdoor Championships, while also earning Big South Conference All-Academic Team honors in both indoor and outdoor and being named the 2024 Big South Conference Outdoor Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

This is Moore's second career Academic All-District® honor. The Murphy, N.C. native graduated with a bachelor's degree in health and wellness promotion with a grade point average of 3.99.

Weas put together a stellar senior campaign for the Bulldogs, ranking No. 28 in the Southeast region in the indoor 60m hurdles, No. 22 in the region in the outdoor 110m hurdles and No. 33 in the region in the outdoor 400m hurdles. He won the Big South Conference championship in the outdoor 110m hurdles, and was a member of the runner-up 4x100m relay squad at the outdoor championships as well.

This is Weas's second career Academic All-District honor. The Asheville, N.C. native graduated with a bachelor's degree in environmental science with a grade point average of 3.77.

Jackson put together a solid senior season for the Bulldogs, ranking No. 36 in the Southeast region in the indoor shot put and No. 29 in the region in the outdoor shot put.

This is Jackson's second career Academic All-District® honor. The Columbus, Ohio native graduated with a bachelor's degree in management with a grade point average of 3.64.
