Caitlin Hefner, Abby Parks Named Academic All-ASUN

FULL ATLANTIC SUN CONFERENCE RELEASE
ATLANTA, Ga. - UNC Asheville junior Caitlin Hefner and senior Abby Parks of Women's Swimming and Diving have been named Academic All-ASUN, announced by the league today (Monday, Mar. 11). In Asheville's first year in the conference, Hefner and Parks become the first Academic All-ASUN selections in program history.
"Having two outstanding women recognized on the Academic All-Conference list is a true testament of the scholarly emphasis this team expects and requires," said head coach Elizabeth Lykins.
Hefner advanced to the finals in all three individual events at the 2023-24 ASUN Championships. She placed fourth in the 1650 free, eighth in the 500 free and 13th in the 200 free. She was also a member of the fourth-place 800 free relay team. Academically, Hefner is a double major in physics and mathematics with a 3.99 grade point average.

This is Hefner's first career Academic All-ASUN selection. She is a native of Mt. Holly, N.C.

"Caitlin Hefner, a junior, has conducted outstanding research with other scientists gathering at Furman University last summer where their findings have national relevance," said Lykins.

Parks qualified for the A finals in all three of her events at the 2023-24 ASUN Championships. She took a third-place podium finish in the 50 free and earned a NCAA B cut with a time of 22.61. She also posted a sixth-place finish in the 100 free and a seventh-place finish in the 100 breast. She was a member of the podium finish in the 200 free relay, while also being a part of the fourth-place 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay and 400 free relay teams. Academically, she is a double major in accounting and economics with a 3.82 grade point average.

This is Parks's first career Academic All-ASUN selection. She is a native of Matthews, N.C.

"Abby Parks not only carries an impressive GPA but will be taking a fifth year to earn her Master's Degree in Economics and continue swimming next year," said Lykins.
