Women's Swimming and Diving Wraps Up Competition at ASUN Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - UNC Asheville Women's Swimming and Diving wrapped up its first competition at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships on Saturday (Feb. 24), finishing in fourth with 535.5 points.
Caitlin Hefner posted a season-best 17:01.61 in the mile (1650), while Grace Adams took 12th with a lifetime-best 17:23.63. Rose Sciaudone (17:55.11) and Gaby Shenot (18:09.52) also logged season-bests in the event. Abby Parks took sixth in the 100 free in 50.58 after a lifetime-best 49.72 in the morning prelims, while Olivia Ciancimino finished 11th with a lifetime-best 51.18 in the event after a season-best 51.94 in the morning prelims. Ava Kilpatrick finished 13th with a lifetime-best mark of 51.42 after a lifetime-best 51.64 in the morning prelims, while Anna Marcotti took 16th in 51.57 after a season-best 51.71 in the morning prelims. Grace Adams took eighth in the 200 back in 2:04.87 after a lifetime-best 2:01.79 in the morning prelims, while Alessia Cunegatti finished 12th in the event with a lifetime-best 2:03.29. Beatrice Cocconcelli finished 11th in the 200 breast in 2:20.69, while the 400 free relay team of Caroline Crouse, Parks, Kilpatrick and Ciancimino finished fourth in 3:23.51 with Crouse swimming a lifetime-best split of 50.09. During the finals, Asheville posted three season-best times and five lifetime-best times. Â
Danai Gkogkosi swam the 100 free prelims in 53.31, while Rachel Daly swam the event in 54.89. Amelia Presley swam the 200 back in 2:08.09, while Addison Wright logged a lifetime-best 2:10.74 in the prelims of the event. Gracelyn Cox swam the prelims of the 200 breast in a lifetime-best 2:21.34, while Anna Kate Halligan finished in 2:23.13 and Miriam Wheatley posted a time of 2:23.44. During the prelims, Asheville logged four lifetime-bests and three season-bests.
"What a great showing at conference championships!" said head coach Elizabeth Lykins. "Our staff is extremely proud of the team's fight and grit over these four days. Our excitement was contagious as shown with multiple broken school and freshman records, as well as the multitude of lifetime-best performances."
Asheville returns to the water next weekend (Mar. 2-3) at Georgia's Last Chance Meet. The action will take place at Gabrielson Natatorium in Athens, Ga.
