UNC Asheville Sweeps Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Weekly Awards

FULL ATLANTIC SUN CONFERENCE RELEASE

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNC Asheville has swept the Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Swimming and Diving weekly awards, announced by the league today (Wednesday, Dec. 18).
Senior Caitlin Hefner earns ASUN Swimmer of the Week honors, while Vivian Fougeron brings home Diver of the Week honors.

Asheville posted a thrilling 150-149 comeback over Georgia Southern in a double-dual on Friday (Dec. 13), while dropping the second leg of the double dual to ECU.

Hefner posted a win in the 1000 free in 10:31.86 and a second-place finish in the 500 free in 5:10.53, while she was also the second leg of a winning 400 free relay squad with a split of 52.37. She was a huge contributor in the 150-149 win over Georgia Southern, picking up key points on Georgia Southern in both of her distance events.

"Without Caitlin's contribution in the 1000, 500 and relay 100 split, we would not have pulled off the win against such a formidable opponent," said head coach Elizabeth Lykins. "We're very proud to have both women take the much-deserved weekly honors."

This is Hefner's second career Swimmer of the Week honor. The Mt. Holly, N.C. native is a double major in mathematics and physics.

Fougeron placed fifth overall in the three-meter dive, taking third versus both ECU and Georgia Southern (216.75). She also finished eighth overall in the one-meter dive, placing fifth versus both Georgia Southern and ECU (198.20).

"We had a good showing at Georgia Southern with Vivian leading the way for Asheville in the three-meter," said diving coach Matthew Macon. "It was a great start to the team training trip!"

This is Fougeron's second career Diver of the Week honor. The Hobe Sound, Fla. native is a business major.

The Bulldogs (2-2) are back in action on Thursday (Dec. 19) at Florida Gulf Coast for the Eagles Holiday Splash featuring host FGCU, Tulane and Indiana State. The action begins at 10:00 a.m. from Ft. Myers, Fla.
