CLEVELAND – The Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (DI-AAA ADA) has selected Janet R. Cone, senior administrator for university enterprises and director of athletics at the University of North Carolina Asheville, to serve as President for the 2023-24 membership year.

"I am grateful and honored to serve and lead the members of the I-AAA ADA as President for the 2023-24 year," stated Cone. "As we continue to grapple with NIL, the Transfer Portal, NCAA Transformation Recommendations, and the rising cost of athletics, I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues on seeking solutions that will impact our student-athletes, coaches, and administrators in positive ways and sustain a Division I Collegiate Model of Athletics."

Cone, who has served as UNC Asheville's Director of Athletics since 2004, is also a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Executive Committee and is on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame.

Bulldog teams have won over 30 Big South Conference Championships, and several student-athletes have earned recognition as All-Americans during Cone's tenure. Collectively, the Bulldogs have also succeeded academically with routinely high grade point averages and graduation rates. Community service is also a way of life for the Bulldogs, as Asheville annually engages in over 2,500 hours of service activities both as individuals and teams.

Recently, UNC Asheville Athletics partnered with Huron in the fall of 2022 to develop strategies and prioritize investments that will sustain and advance Bulldog Athletics. Out of this partnership came the latest strategic plan for the Bulldogs entitled "Dream Bigger. Achieve More"
