ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The 2022-23 academic year was one of the best in recent memory for the UNC Asheville athletic department. A comprehensive list of championships, awards, and accomplishments by the Bulldogs can be found in the UNC Asheville Athletics Annual Report.
"This has been a remarkable year for Bulldog Athletics," said UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone. "Whether you look at our conference championships in men's basketball or women's tennis, continued student-athlete excellence in the classroom, or transformational financial support from our community and friends - there is much to celebrate. We are poised for even greater success in the year to come as we collectively strive to dream bigger and achieve more."

Team Highlights
- The men's basketball team finished with a school record 27 wins and captured both the Big South Regular Season and Tournament Championships. With the tournament championship, the Bulldogs punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in school history.
- Asheville women's tennis went 16-2 on the season and posted an undefeated 6-0 record in Big South play en route to the program's first regular season title since 1989.
- The Bulldog swimming & diving team notched its second consecutive undefeated season (9-0) in 2022-23.
- Drew Pember had one of the best seasons in the history of UNC Asheville basketball. He was named the Preseason Big South Player of the Year to start the season. He was then named the Big South Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Tournament MVP. He is the only player in conference history to earn all four awards in the same season.
- Tajion Jones (men's basketball) had a stellar final season as he landed a spot on the All-Big South First Team. Jones also became Asheville's all-time leading scorer and the program's all-time leader in 3-pointers made.
- Ami Grace Dougah was named the Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Year in 2023.
- Delaney Carlton, who was tabbed the CCSA Swimmer of the Year, became Asheville's first student-athlete to compete at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships.
- Track & Field student-athletes Solomon McDonald and Claudia Prieto both competed at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the second consecutive season.
- Claudia Prieto (track & field) and Nora Segurola Larrinaga (swimming & diving) were named Scholar-Athletes of the Year in their respective sports.
- Dylan Major (cross country/track & field) earned the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship. The scholarship is the preeminent national scholarship awarded to undergraduates studying the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics.
- Bulldog student-athletes posted a department GPA of 3.2 or higher in both semesters, had over 170 student-athletes be named to the athletic honor roll (3.0 GPA or higher), and 33 graduated to close out the spring semester.
