Prieto Finishes Competition at NCAA East Prelims

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - UNC Asheville senior field athlete Claudia Prieto wrapped up competition and her collegiate career at the NCAA East Prelims on Thursday (May 25).
Prieto competed in her final women's long jump event at the regional championships, jumping exactly 6.00 meters and earning a 23rd-place finish. She bested her previous jump at last year's regional, a 5.92-meter jump that earned her a 23rd-place finish.
"Like Solomon yesterday, Claudia outperformed last year's performance at the NCAA prelims," said Head Track and Field Coach Joel Williams. "Over her five years at Asheville, Claudia completely lived up to the title of student-athlete, excelling in both the classroom and on the field. I would also like to thank her event coach JP Kimbrough for his excellent work in training and mentoring Claudia and Athletic Trainer Eliza Parker for the outstanding care she gives to all of our student-athletes."
Prieto and her senior Bulldog counterpart Solomon McDonald, who competed yesterday in the men's shot put, will both walk away from the NCAA East Prelims as back-to-back regional participants in their respective events, an honor held by a short list of Bulldog student-athletes. Both hold the school record in their events for both indoor and outdoor competition by a wide margin, with multiple other accolades and performances littering the Asheville record books.
"I am very proud and honored to be a Bulldog for these last five years. I leave UNC Asheville with a lot of accomplished goals, and I know that I will keep improving," said Prieto. "I am thankful for all that my coaches, trainers, and the whole athletic department have done for me. I will always be a Bulldog and I will forever be honored to be one.
