FULL ROSTER RELEASE

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Delaney Carlton of the UNC Asheville swimming & diving team was recently selected to compete at the 2023 World University Games for Team USA in Chengdu, China on July 28-August 8. Carlton, who is one of just 18 swimmers in the country to be named to the team, will be joined in Chengdu with UNC Asheville Assistant Coach Ian Quinn who was recently named the Director of Swimming for the USA Team.

"The only way I could be more excited about coaching for Team USA this summer at the World University Games, is being able to coach one of my own Bulldog swimmers," said UNC Asheville Assistant Coach Ian Quinn. "Delaney has absolutely earned the right to represent our country in Chengdu, and my hope is that her taking this massive step for herself and our university will have people reimagining what can be possible at UNC Asheville."

Carlton, a recent graduate of UNC Asheville, has left her mark on the program. Carlton not only became the first Bulldog swimmer to compete at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships last March but was also named the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Swimmer of the Year.

She is the school's record holder in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle, a five-time CCSA Swimmer of the Week, and a 2022-23 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection. Carlton was also named the 2022 CCSA Scholar-Athlete of the Year and to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team for her work in the classroom during her time as a Bulldog.

The World University Games have been held every two years dating back past 1970 and will feature more than 10,000 student-athletes representing over 100 countries. The USA Team sponsors 18 sports in the games, including basketball, water polo, track and field, shooting, swimming, soccer and diving. Back in January, the International University Sports Federation announced that the 2029 World University Games will be held in North Carolina.
