ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Swimming and Diving Assistant Coach Ian Quinn has been selected as the Director of Swimming for the USA Team in the 2023 World University Games, set to take place in Chengdu, China from July 28-Aug. 8.

Quinn has been on staff for four seasons at Asheville and has helped the program to reach new heights in that time. The team has won 21 straight dual meets dating back to October 2020 and has rewritten the program record book and collected numerous accolades. Quinn also coached Asheville's first-ever NCAA qualifier this past season in Delaney Carlton, who was the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Swimmer of the Year in 2022-23.

"Coaching for the United States has been a dream of mine ever since I got my start in coaching eight years ago," said Quinn. "I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to act as Director of Swimming for USA Team's World University Games men's and women's squads in China this summer. Even more incredible, I am thrilled to be able to prepare Delaney for the experience of competing for the USA. Special thanks to David Knopp at US-IUSF for selecting me for this position, and to Elizabeth Lykins for believing in me and mentoring me to accomplish one of my greatest career goals."

"It is with great pride that assistant coach, Ian Quinn, will represent USA Team at the World University Games this summer in China," said Asheville Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins. "He will be an incredible asset to the staff and the athletes with his knowledge and skill set."

The World University Games have been held every two years dating back past 1970 and will feature more than 10,000 student-athletes representing over 100 countries. The USA Team sponsors 18 sports in the games, including basketball, water polo, track and field, shooting, swimming, soccer and diving. Back in January, the International University Sports Federation announced that the 2029 World University Games will be held in North Carolina.
