Men's Soccer Announces Five Signees for Spring 2023

02.23.2023 | Men's Soccer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's soccer program has announced the addition of five student-athletes to the program for the Spring 2023 term today (Thursday, Feb. 23). Head Coach Mick Giordano and his staff would like to welcome Oscar Barry, Jaden Berman, Charlie Farrar, Seth Hammond and Roger Sanguinetti to the Bulldog program.

"We are thrilled to have Oscar, Jaden, Charlie, Seth and Roger join our team this Spring," Giordano said. "All five bring a different, yet specific skill-set that truly excites our staff and helps elevate our program closer to the level we strive to be at in the coming seasons."

"I need to thank the staff most importantly for their work they have done in the recruitment of our Spring signees. Kyle and Ronnie were wonderful in identifying potential players for the program in the early stage of this recruitment period. A massive thank you though to Joe LaCasto, our Recruiting Coordinator, for all the work he did from start to finish with getting each one of the student-athletes committed, signed and acclimated in a short window. Joe has been an irreplaceable piece to our continued progress as a program. The work he has done on the recruiting front is second to none and we are extremely grateful for everything he does."

"What excites our staff the most is that each one of these student-athletes are people of high character. They will add to our university in the classroom and on the field, but their biggest impact will be the character they provide to our program and community."

Oscar Barry | Defender | Freshman | Walsall FC/Sulihull Moors | Solihull, United Kingdom
• First year player coming out of the Walsall FC Academy
• Won the Vanarama U19 League Title
• Also spent time with Sulihull Moors helping the team to promotion
• Has his Level 2 Coaching Badge and plans to stay within football after his playing career

From Coach Giordano: "Oscar is a tremendous footballer that comes from a high pedigree. His ability on the ball and drive to win are second to none. He is a talented 1v1 defender and will add quality to our defensive group immediately."

Jaden Berman | Defender | Sophomore | George Mason | Winchester, Virginia
• Transferred from George Mason
• Prior to George Mason, played for IMG Academy in the USSDA & MLS Next
• Named to the 2021-2022 Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll
• Played USL2 for Commonwealth Cardinals FC in Summer 2022 and was second in overall points on the season

From Coach LaCasto: "Jaden is a hard-nosed, left sided defender. He is as blue-collar as they come and adds another dimension with his ability to play anywhere off the left."

Charlie Farrar | Goalkeeper | Junior | Chowan | Wakefield, United Kingdom
• Transferred from Chowan
• Played in 35 career games and in the 2021 NCAA Tournament apart of the Chowan program

Roger Sanguinetti | Defender/Midfielder | Junior | Grand Canyon | Katy, Texas
• Transferred from Grand Canyon
• Played in 20 career games at GCU and in the 2020 and the 2021 NCAA Tournament apart of the Grand Canyon program
