Asheville Cross Country Ranked No. 15 in Week Three Regional Rankings

10.02.2023 | Cross Country

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – For the first time in program history, the UNC Asheville men's cross country team has earned a spot in the top 15 of the NCAA DI Cross Country Regional Rankings, which was released Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The Bulldogs enter week three of the rankings at No. 15 in the Southeast Region, after a strong outing at the Live in Lou Classic.

"This ranking is a testament to the dedication that our student-athletes, coaches, and administrators have put into helping Asheville become a top-notch athletics department," Head Cross Country Coach Adam Puett said. "We have never been a regionally ranked program during my time at Asheville, and it has always been a goal, so it is great to see the hard work our men consistently put in finally pay off with some recognition. From here, we will keep working on winning races and being at the top of the Big South Conference."

Regional rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning teams' strength with current season results (if applicable) in determining a rank order of squad potential.

UNC Asheville will return to the course on Saturday, Oct. 14, as they compete in the USC Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.
