Andy Fisher promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Communications

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone announced the promotion of Andy Fisher to the post of Assistant Athletic Director for Communications on Thursday.
"Since joining our staff, Andy has proven to not only be a great teammate willing to help our entire athletic department but also displays a strong work ethic and positive attitude that makes this promotion a deserved one," stated Janet R. Cone, Director of Athletics. "We are happy for him and excited to see his growth continue in this new role."
Andy Fisher joined the UNC Asheville Athletic Communications staff in March 2020 as the department's Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. During his time in Asheville, Fisher has served as the main contact for Bulldog women's basketball, baseball, volleyball, swimming & diving, cross country and track & field programs while assisting in the coverage of the rest of the athletic programs.
"Andy has done a great job wearing many hats over the past few weeks and has earned this opportunity to lead our athletic communications team," said Associate Athletics Director for External Operations David Jandrew. "Andy will do a great job in expanding the reach of Bulldog Athletics and is committed to making this department and university better on a daily basis."
Prior to coming to UNC Asheville, Fisher spent the previous three-and-a-half years as the Director of Sports Information at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C. During his time with Lees-McRae, Fisher spent two of those three years as the main sports information contact for all 21 of the College's intercollegiate athletic programs. In addition to his role with Lees-McRae Athletics, Fisher also served as the Stat Stringer for the Elizabethton Twins during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
Fisher went to Lees-McRae from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, where he served as an Athletic Media Relations Intern for a little over a year. During his time at ETSU, Fisher was the main contact for Buccaneer volleyball, softball, indoor track and field, women's triathlon, along with the men's and women's tennis programs. Fisher, who also served secondary contact roles for ETSU's football and men's basketball teams, also gained valuable experience serving as the official scorer for the Johnson City Cardinals, which is the Rookie Affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, during the 2017 season.
Prior to his post at ETSU, Fisher worked at a pair of Division II institutions, Bemidji State University (Minn.) and the University of Minnesota Crookston within their sports information offices. While at BSU, Fisher worked with the volleyball, women's hockey and softball programs, while at UMC he aided in the coverage of all its athletic programs.
"I am very thankful to Janet Cone, David Jandrew, and the search committee for entrusting me with this opportunity," said Fisher. "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Asheville to this point and I look forward to the chance of working with the rest of our external operations team and our campus and community partners as we continue to provide the best possible coverage for our athletic department, individual programs, and our student-athletes."
Fisher is a 2013 graduate of the University of Minnesota Crookston with a Bachelor's degree in Sports Management.
