CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference released its 2022 Preseason Cross Country polls on Monday. UNC Asheville's men's team was picked to finish third and the women's team was tabbed for a fifth-place finish.
Last year, Asheville's men's team finished third at the Big South Conference Championships and the women's team placed fourth. The third-place finish for the men marked its highest at the conference championships since 2000, while the women have consistently finished in the top five since 2015.
Asheville's women's team will add a large crop of freshmen for the 2022 season, led by experienced track & field student-athlete Ava Nkadi and the only returning distance runner Amanda Orban. The men's team boasts a seasoned team of distance runners, all of whom competed for the Bulldogs in the past. Among the returners are John Ciprich and Adam Hessler, who were both named All-Big South runners in 2021 and finished in the top 20 in last year's Big South Championship.
The Bulldogs will open their season at the Covered Bridge Open on September 2 in Boone, N.C. To view the entire cross country schedule, click HERE.
