ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville Men's Soccer team recently collected its eighth straight United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for its excellence achieved in the classroom during the 2021-22 academic year.
To be eligible for this honor, teams must post a grade point average of 3.0 or higher as a team over the course of an academic year. Men's Soccer had a cumulative GPA of 3.26 for the 2021-2022 school year.
"Our staff is extremely proud of the group for their continued drive to be excellent in all facets of life," said Head Coach Mick Giordano. "Their hard work in the classroom has continued our tradition of being one of the highest academic performers not only on campus, but in the country."
Overall, 746 soccer teams (220 men, 382 women) posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2021-2022 academic year.
"We also want to recognize and thank our fantastic faculty and support staff, especially Ms. Rebecca Nelms," Giordano added. "The guidance and dedication to our student-athletes from Ms. Rebecca is truly inspirational. We have one of the best collective groups of professors in the entire country, and this continues to show with their willingness to be a positive resource for our players to find success in the classroom. Without their help, this would be much more challenging to achieve. Just another reason why UNC Asheville is a special place."
