NEW ORLEANS, La. – The UNC Asheville track & field teams along with student-athlete Claudia Prieto were recognized for their work in the classroom earlier this week as they earned academic awards from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The men's and women's track & field programs each earned the distinction of an All-Academic team. To qualify for this honor, the cumulative grade-point average for all student-athletes on the institution's NCAA Squad List must be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The men's team finished with a GPA of 3.155, while the women's squad posted a 3.296 GPA.

Prieto, who was named the Big South's Scholar-Athlete of the Year following both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2021-22, garnered All-Academic honors as well. To qualify, student-athletes must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships and must have finished the season ranked in the top 48 in their given event in the East or West during the most recent outdoor season. Prieto represented Asheville well at the NCAA East Preliminaries in late May finishing 23rd in the long jump with a leap of 5.92-meters after coming into the meet seeded 48th.
