Bulldogs close out the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Wednesday

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The UNC Asheville track & field teams wrapped up the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Wednesday. Asheville saw three outdoor program records fall and had eight top-five finishes to close out the Championships.
Asheville's two All-Big South performances came in the men's 4x400-meter relay and women's javelin throw. The 4x400m relay team placed third with a time of 3:11.59, which set a new outdoor school record for the event. As for the women's javelin throw, Maya Stanley earned her second straight All-Big South Third Team honor with a toss of 40.56-meters.
On top of those performances, Claudia Prieto and Jack Choiniere both landed spots on the Big South's All-Academic Teams. Additionally, Prieto was named the League's Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second time in her career after doing so after the indoor season.
The two other record-breaking outings by Bulldogs came in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter run. Jalen Anderson, who also placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 10.32, broke Asheville's outdoor record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.87. In the 400m run, Bryson Riddick clocked in at 47.68, topping the old record of 47.81 held by fellow Bulldog Anthony Mason.
The Bulldog relay teams logged two other stellar outings in the 4x100-meter relays. On the women's side, the quartet of Prieto, Kindra Mingo, Raven Thurman, and Khadeesha Crumbly clocked in at 47.81, which was the fourth-fastest time in program history. As for the men's race, the team of Akin Williams, Anderson, Denley Joseph, and Mason posted the second-fastest time in the program's history, posting a mark of 40.71.
Zac Weas (110m hurdles) and Clara Wincheski (5000m run) both placed among the top five in their respective events to round out the highlights for Asheville on Wednesday.
Overall, the men's team placed sixth with 62 points, while the women's squad finished seventh with 43 points.
