BIG SOUTH RELEASE

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Asheville's Claudia Prieto was named the Big South's Female Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday. It marks the fourth time in her career that Prieto has earned a weekly award from the conference and the first time during the 2022 outdoor season.

"Another outstanding performance by Claudia," said Head Coach Joel Williams. "She has continued to break her own school record on an almost regular basis, and it's due to her consistent, high-quality preparation and the guidance of Coach J.P. Kimbrough."

Prieto paced the Bulldogs in three different individual events at last weekend's VertKlasse Meeting. Prieto bested her own outdoor school record in the long jump with a leap of 6.09-meters. Her long jump leap, which was also the best in a field of stellar competitors, was the fourth-best in conference history. She also had the best finish for a Bulldog in the triple jump (11th – 11.20m) and 100m dash (10th - 12.30). Prieto was also a member of Asheville's 4x100m relay team that placed 9th with a time of 48.39.

Prieto and the rest of the Bulldogs will be back in action on April 15-16 when they compete in the Catamount Classic on the campus of Western Carolina.
