Delaney Carlton named CCSA Swimmer of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Following a stellar weekend of competition, Delaney Carlton of the UNC Asheville swimming & diving team was named the Collegiate Coastal Sports Association's (CCSA) Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday. It is the third time that Carlton has garnered this honor during her career as a Bulldog.
Carlton had a fantastic weekend of swims this past weekend against CCSA foes Liberty and Campbell. The junior from Lilburn, Georgia competed in six different events and notched first-place nods in all six. Individually, Carlton registered the top time in the 50-yard freestyle (22.94), 100-yard freestyle (51.55), and 200-yard freestyle (1:51.94). In the 200y free, Carlton set a new personal best in the event. Carlton also helped Asheville tally three relay victories in the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard medley, and 400-yard freestyle. Her split times in those relay wins were 23.15 (LO), 22.74r (free leg), and 51.27r (anchor), which were key in the Bulldogs coming out on top.Â
"Delaney really showed up this weekend and had some very fast swims," said Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins. "We are proud of her success both in the pool and the classroom. She is the epitome of representing UNC Asheville Swim & Dive."
As mentioned earlier, it marks the third time that Carlton has been named the CCSA Swimmer of the Week. By accomplishing that feat three times, she is tied with former Bulldog Morgan Rulevich for the most weekly awards ever won by a Bulldog.
Carlton and the rest of the Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday when they host a Senior Celebration meet at the Justice Center Pool. The meet is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. and fans can tune in and watch it on ESPN+.Â
