08.05.2021 | Men's Soccer
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference released its 2021 Men's Soccer Preseason Poll on Wednesday afternoon, with UNC Asheville slated to finish fifth.
The fifth-place designation is tied for the second highest preseason ranking ever for the Bulldogs, being selected fifth five other times in program history (last in 2007) and fourth just twice in the program's history (1989, 2002). Asheville, which was picked ninth in last year's preseason poll, finished fourth in the conference this past spring, going 3-4-1 against conference competition before ultimately falling at nationally-ranked High Point in the Big South Semifinal.
Reigning-champion High Point was selected first, totaling 80 points with eight first-place votes. Campbell was selected to finish second with a total of 73 points and one first place vote, while USC Upstate (53) and Gardner-Webb (45) rank third and fourth in this year's preseason poll. After the Bulldogs, who totaled 42 points, are Radford (32), Longwood (24) and Winthrop (15).
Individually, High Point's MD Myers was selected offensive player of the year, and Campbell's Franck Mom was picked as the defensive player of the year.
The Bulldogs reported to campus on Sunday, and will open up the season on August 26 when they welcome Northern Kentucky to Greenwood Field at 3:00 p.m. Admission to all home matches this season is free! To view the 2021 UNC Asheville Men's Soccer Schedule, click here.
