ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Big South announced its inaugural Men's Soccer Player of the Week awards on Monday afternoon, with UNC Asheville's Conor Behan being named Offensive Player of the Week and rookie Jarron James earning Freshman of the Week honors.
In the season-opening win (3-2) against Northern Kentucky, Behan was a threat all game, registering an assist and scoring what would ultimately be the game winner. The sophomore from Dublin, Ireland, totaled four shots with two being on frame and one ringing the post. In the first half, Behan found Jake Kemhadjian who played the ball to James for the score, helping seal the game in the second when he dribbled into the box and beat the keeper in the 57th minute.
A member of the spring 2021 All-Big South Freshman Team, this is Behan's second weekly honor in his two seasons.
James was impressive in his collegiate debut, scoring a goal on a team-high six shots in 61 minutes played. The freshman from Charlotte, North Carolina, totaled three shots on frame, scoring the first goal of the season to put Asheville in front 1-0 over Northern Kentucky. James would continue to press, nearly adding a second goal in the 77th when one of his shots rang the post.
The Bulldogs hit the road Monday night, facing N.C. State at 7:00 p.m.
