CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference released its 2021 Preseason Cross Country Polls on Monday, and both UNC Asheville cross country teams were picked to finish fifth.
Last spring, Asheville's men's team finished fourth at the conference meet, while the women's squad placed third. The third-place finish from the women's team marked its highest since 2013, and for the men, they clinched a fourth place for the fourth consecutive season.
Asheville will boast two of the more experienced teams in the Big South this fall. Except for two freshmen on the men's team, every other runner on Asheville's two rosters has competed for the Bulldogs in the past. Among these returners are Adam Hessler and Clara Wincheski, who both garnered All-Big South honors by finishing in the top 12 at last spring's conference meet.
The Bulldogs will open their season at the Covered Bridge Open on September 3 in Boone, N.C. To view the entire cross country schedule, click HERE.
