Volleyball Signs Carley Modlin to 2021 Recruiting Class

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Head Volleyball Coach Frederico Santos announced Thursday that the program has signed Carley Modlin (Pinehurst, N.C.). Modlin, who spent the past two seasons at Sandhills Community College, is the first student-athlete to join the Bulldogs' 2021 recruiting class.

In her two seasons at Sandhills Community College, Modlin racked up 572 kills on a .403 attack percentage, 196 blocks, 86 digs, 18 aces, and 12 assists. During her time with the Flyers, Modlin has racked up several honors and awards that include: Region X Player of the Year, First Team All-Region, NJCAA Honorable Mention All- American, NJCAA D3 Player of the Week, Third Team NJCAA Academic All-American.
During her prep career at Pinecrest High School, Modlin was a two-time All-Conference honoree. She was voted her school's player of the year as a senior. Modlin was also a decorated soccer player helping her squad to a pair of deep runs in the state tournament.
As a student, Modlin was named an NCHSAA Scholar-Athlete as a senior in high school. To be considered for this honor, students must attain at least a 3.5 weighted grade point average for the semester in which they competed. Furthermore, Modlin had a 4.0 grade-point average during her latest semester at Sandhills CC.
Santos on Modlin: "We are thrilled about Carley's addition to our program. She is a great blocker and hitter as well as a great student-athlete," said Santos. "We look forward to having her with us for the fall season."
