Rookie netted a goal in Sunday’s win over Longwood

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South announced its men's soccer players of the week for matches played February 15-21 on Tuesday afternoon, with Asheville's Conor Behan earning the Freshman of the Week award after scoring a goal and registering three shots in Sunday's win over Longwood.

"We are delighted to hear Conor has been recognized as Freshman of the Week," said Asheville Head Coach Mick Giordano. "He put in a wonderful shift on Sunday, and was very impactful for us. It's exciting to have our players recognized for their efforts!"

A midfielder from Dublin, Ireland, Behan came off the bench and netted the first goal of the season for the Bulldogs, finishing a Miles Peay pass in the 51st minute to put Asheville ahead 1-0. Accounting for two of the three shots on goal for the team, Behan, who played 49 minutes in his debut, helped the Bulldogs pick up a season-opening 2-1 win, marking the first time Asheville has opened its season with a victory since 2015.

The Bulldogs return to the pitch on Sunday, hosting Winthrop at 2:00 p.m.
