CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Mikaela Fullerton of the UNC Asheville swimming & diving team was named the Collegiate Coastal Sports Association's (CCSA) Swimmer of the Week on Monday. It marks Fullerton's first weekly honor of her career and the third by a Bulldog during the 2021-22 season.
Fullerton closed out the fall semester on an especially high note as the Bulldogs closed out the 2021 portion of their schedule with the three-day Fall Frenzy Invitational in Charlotte. Fullerton earned a pair of first-place finishes in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.19) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.35). These times were the fastest in the field and set a new school and meet records in those events. Fullerton also helped Asheville's 200-yard medley relay team tally another first-place nod, clocking in at 1:42.80. She also swam the breaststroke leg (1:02.30) of the 400-medley relay for Asheville that clocked in at 3:45.33, which is the fastest time in the CCSA so far this season.
"We are tremendously proud of the way Mikaela competed and supported her teammates this past weekend at the Fall Frenzy Invitational," said Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins. "She showed real determination and grit in the face of formidable competition. To take down two meet records, two program records, and claim our program's second-ever NCAA B Cut is truly remarkable. Mikaela and the rest of our Bulldog Swimmers and Divers have big things in store for 2022!"
Fullerton and the rest of the Bulldogs will return to action on January 21-22 when they travel to Lynchburg, Virginia, to take on Campbell and Liberty.
