LYNCHBURG, VA. / CHARLOTTE, N.C.
 – The UNC Asheville swimming & diving teams had a solid start to their final competitions of the fall semester on Friday. Overall, the Bulldogs had one freshman record broken along with several lifetime-best and season-best performances on the day.

"The team energy was very contagious today," said freshman Chloe McDonald afterward. "As a freshman, it was great to have such support from all of my teammates. I'm looking forward to day two of the invite and excited to continue watching us compete."

The day opened with a bunch of stellar swims by the Bulldogs. Of the 28 swims by Asheville, 15 resulted in those swimmers qualifying for the finals later in the day. Furthermore, 23 of those were season-best outings, and five were lifetime-best marks. Perhaps the highlight of the morning session was freshman Riley Edmundson when she broke the freshman record in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:07.14.

The standout performances by the Bulldogs kept rolling in when the student-athletes returned for the evening sessions. Asheville posted a pair of podium finishes in the 400-yard medley relay (2nd – 3:45.33) and 200-yard freestyle relay (3rd – 1:33.54).

In the individual events, the Bulldogs had at least one student-athlete register a season-best time or achieve a lifetime-best time in their given event. One of those Bulldogs was Edmundson, who bested her record-breaking performance in the morning, clocking in at 2:06.86 during the finals of the 200-yard individual medley.

At the end of day one of action in Charlotte, the Bulldogs rank second on the scoreboard with 407.5 points.

In diving, the tandem of Jade Canady and Morgan Coughlen represented the Bulldogs at the TYR '85 Invitational. Both Canady and Coughlen improved their respective point totals from the prelims to the finals, and they ranked 15th and 13th, respectively, in 3-meter diving.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday when they resume both the TYR '85 Invitational and the Fall Frenzy Invitational. The diving will get underway at 10 a.m., while the swimming is scheduled for a 9 a.m. start time with the prelims.
