Multiple Bulldogs Podium on Day Two of Big South Championships; Riddick Named Freshman of the Year

BLACKSBURG, VA. – UNC Asheville track and field concluded what was a phenomenal Big South Indoor Championships on Saturday with multiple podiums and new school records.
Freshman Bryson Riddick was honored for the impressive start to his collegiate career as he was named Big South Freshman of the Year for his accomplishments during the indoor season.
UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field each finished in fifth place in the 2020 Big South Indoor Championships.
The Bulldog men claimed a first place finish for UNC Asheville in the 4x400 relay as the quartet of Joel Bowers, Tyree McFalling, Bryson Riddick and Isaac Teasley shattered the UNC Asheville school record in the event with a time of 3:15.42.
The Bulldog women earned a podium in the 4x400 relay as well as Raven Thurman, Desire Brown, Khadeesha Crumbly and Alyx Evans finished third with a time of 3:50.80, also shattering the UNC Asheville school record.
Bryson Riddick earned a podium in the men's 400m as the freshman finished in second place with a time of 49.05. Isaac Teasley finished in fifth place in the event with a time of 49.39.
The Bulldogs grabbed two top four finishes in the women's 800m as Alyx Evans earned a third place spot with a time of 2:16.91 while Ava Nkadi earned a fourth place spot with a time of 2:17.35.
Madeline Nichols earned an eighth place finish in the one mile run as she finished with a time of 5:10.31. Sage Turner finished ninth in the men's one mile run with a time of 4:23.10 while Alex Haines finished in the 11th spot with a time of 4:26.81.
Desire Brown completed the women's 400m in the number six spot with a time of 57.07. Brown also competed in the 200m and finished with a time of 25.38.
Akin Williams earned a podium as he finished third in the men's 60 meters as he ran a time of 6.83. Williams also finished seventh in the 200m with a time of 22.82.
Thomas Little claimed a seventh place finish in the 3000m run with a time of 8:46.38.
In the men's triple jump, Victor Mathuthu earned a fourth place finish with a jump of 14.60 meters.
The highly successful indoor season now sets the Bulldogs up to do some big things in the outdoor season that begins March 20-21.
