Three School Records Fall on Day Two of CCSA Championships

KNOXVILLE, TENN. – UNC Asheville swim and dive had a phenomenal day of swimming as the Bulldogs set three school records, three freshman records, secured 13 lifetime-best times, nine season-best times and moved up four places in the standings in a single day of competition on day two of the CCSA Conference Championships in Knoxville, Tenn.
Prelims – Thursday Morning Session
UNC Asheville put on a show Thursday morning as 11 Bulldogs qualified for finals Thursday night. In addition, the Bulldogs also secured one freshman record, six-lifetime best times and nine season-best times in the single session.
Delaney Carlton shined in the 50 free as she set a UNC Asheville freshman record by swimming a lifetime best time of 23.25. Carlton's time earned her a spot in the A final Thursday evening. Bela Stuart Vieira earned a spot in the B final with a lifetime-best time 23.91 and Nora Segurola Larrinaga secured her spot in the C final with a time of 24.07.
Jessie Frank finished the 50 free with a time of 24.28 and Mackenzie Humphrey finished the event with a season-best time of 24.96. Lauren Dunne swam a lifetime-best time as the sophomore swam a time of 25.33. Hannah Bruno and Maren Oliver also swam in the event as they finished with times of 25.68 (Bruno) and 33.21 (Oliver).
In the 500 free, Skylar Rogan led the Bulldogs and qualified for a spot in the A final with a season-best time of 4:55.81. Two Bulldogs earned spots in the 500 free B final as Catherine Allen secured a season-best time of 5:01.81 and Adee Weller swam a time of 5:04.13.
Marlee Burgess swam a lifetime best time in the 500 free with a time of 5:40.26 while Aleta Jewell and Madi Baron each earned season-best times with times of 5:15.84 (Jewell) and 5:20.25 (Baron).
Five Bulldogs earned spots in the finals in the 200 IM. Madison Rogan swam a season-best time of 2:06.13 while Amelia Ham was just behind her as she swam a lifetime-best time of 5:08.99. Both Rogan and Ham earned spots in the B final Thursday night. The other three Bulldog finals qualifiers in the 200 IM were Ellis Nelson, Christina Marshall and Anna Nabors as all three Bulldogs qualified for the C finals. Nelson swam a season-best time of 2:09.40 while Marshall was right on her heels with a time of 2:09.61. Nabors also finished with a season-best time as she swam a 2:10.95.
Lily Sullivan finished the 200 IM prelims with a time of 2:12.46 while Meredith Bunting secured a season-best time of 2:16.40. Skye Lewis earned a lifetime best time by swimming a time of 2:25.59.
Finals – Thursday Evening Session
The Bulldogs built upon their early success as they moved up four places in the standings with their performances Thursday evening. The highlight of the evening session was three UNC Asheville school records being broken by the Bulldog swimmers in only four events.Â
The first record that was set was in the 200 free relay and is also now the freshman record as the freshman quartet of Delaney Carlton (23.32), Bela Stuart Vieira (23.48), Jessie Frank (23.74) and Nora Segurola Larrinaga finished fifth with an overall time of 1:34.20. That time broke the previous school record by an entire second.
Madison Rogan set one of the other school records in the 200 IM by finishing ninth with a lifetime-best time of 2:05.91.
The third school record fell in the last event of the day as Delaney Carlton finished sixth in the 50 free and set a UNC Asheville record with a lifetime-best time of 23.18. That time is now also the freshman record at UNC Asheville.
Three other lifetime-best times were set in the 200 IM Christina Marshall finished with a time of 2:06.56 and Ellis Nelson swam a 2:06.70. Anna Nabors swam the other lifetime-best in the event with a time of 2:09.85. Amelia Ham also swam in the event and finished with a time of 2:09.56.
Two other Bulldog freshman earned lifetime-best times in the 50 free as Bela Stuart Vieira swam a time of 23.81 while Nora Segurola Larrinaga finished with a time of 24.05.
Three Bulldogs competed in the 500 free final as Skylar Rogan earned huge fifth place points for the Bulldogs with a time of 4:56.38. Catherine Allen earned a season-best time with a ninth place finish with a time of 4:58.55. Adee Weller also competed in the 500 free final and earned a time of 5:05.44.
The Bulldogs are now in fifth place after their huge performances on day two. Two more days of completion are left as UNC Asheville is primed to do much more over the remaining events.
Competition will resume at 10 a.m., Friday morning with the day three prelims at the Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn. Â
