10.22.2020 | Women's Swimming & Diving
ATLANTA, Ga. – UNC Asheville sophomore swimmer Delaney Carlton was named the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Swimmer of the Week by the league office Thursday morning. Carlton is just the fourth Bulldog ever to earn CCSA Swimmer of the Week honors joining Morgan Rulevich, Skylar Rogan, and Alexandra Van Dorsten.
"Having Delaney recognized during this first week of competition is outstanding," said UNC Asheville Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins. "She put in a lot of work while away from campus, even with all of the restrictions, and it's paying off. We are excited for her continued growth this season."
Carlton saw plenty of success in the Bulldogs' first meet of the season last Saturday against Campbell. The Lilburn, Georgia native won the 50y free (23.86) and 100y free (52.53) events. She also showed well in the two relay events. In the 200y medley relay, Carlton posted a time of 23.03 as the anchor to help her team take the top spot in the event, 1:48.54. Furthermore, Carlton logged a time of 51.68 as the anchor in the 400y free relay to help the Bulldogs finish second in that event. Carlton's split of 51.68 was the fastest of any swimmer in the event.
Carlton and the rest of the Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday when they host Liberty. The diving portion will take place at the Jewish Community Center in Asheville and begin at 4 p.m. and can be viewed on Facebook Live. Swimming, meanwhile, will compete at the Justice Center Pool beginning at 5 p.m. and fans can watch it live or on replay on ESPN+.
