ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Athletic supporters took to the links for the annual Bulldog Athletic Association (BAA) Scholarship Golf Classic Monday at the Country Club of Asheville. Overall, 88 golfers and 22 foursomes competed Monday to raise scholarship money for the UNC Asheville Athletics Annual Scholarship Fund.

"What a beautiful day for our golfers," said Special Assistant to Director of Athletics and Event Organizer Betsy Blose. "Thank you to all the companies and individuals who participated today in the annual Bulldog Athletic Association Scholarship Golf Classic. We are so appreciative of all our participants for coming out today to support the Scholarship Fund for our 270-plus Bulldog student-athletes.  We want to thank Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort, and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians for their continued sponsorship of this event. We look forward to our second day of golf tomorrow."

Of the 22 foursomes that competed, three teams finished the day tied with the lowest score coming in at 29-under. Due to the USGA tiebreaking rules, Katherine Morosani's Foursome of Lynn Davis, Lorraine Silverman, Diane Paul, and Cheri Kenyon was declared the winner. Coming in second place was Dominion Energy's group of Lee McElrath, Greg Reynolds, Vince Howell, and Sean Lowman, and rounding out the top three was the foursome of Clifton Simeon, Laurin Yoder, Greg Catevenis, and Tyler Lance from Arby's.

Individually, Greg Gibson finished closest to the pin on the day on the 17th hole, while Chad Whittemore posted the longest drive on the seventh hole.

The BAA Scholarship Golf Classic will resume Tuesday morning from the Country Club of Asheville.
