Prieto Sets UNC Asheville Long Jump Record in Day One of Buccaneer Invitational

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. – UNC Asheville track and field completed the first day of the Buccaneer Invitational Friday in Johnson City, Tenn.
Claudia Prieto highlighted the day for the Bulldogs as she set a new UNC Asheville record in the women's long jump with a jump of 5.78 meters. The previous school record was also held by Prieto with a jump of 5.58 meters with which she completed in 2019.
Nick Roberts qualified for finals in the men's 60m hurdles as he finished fifth in the prelims with a time of 8.53 and eighth in the semifinals with a time of 8.58.
Desire Brown is now second in the UNC Asheville record book with a time of 57.54 in the 400m as she finished second and earned a spot in the finals. Raven Thurman also earned a spot in the finals as she finished with a time of 58.97 and a fifth place finish.
Four Bulldogs earned a spot in the finals in the men's 400m. Isaac Teasley led the Bulldogs as he finished second and is now third in UNC Asheville history with a time of 49.75. Tyree McFalling finished with a time of 49.99 while Bryson Riddick and Joel Bowers each finished with times of 50.17 and 50.22, respectively.
Akin Williams qualified for the finals in the men's 60m as he finished the prelims with a time of 6.99.
Denley Joseph just missed getting into the top eight in order to qualify for finals in the men's 200m as he finished ninth with a time 22.30. Desire Brown was in the same position in the women's 200m as she narrowly missed the eighth place spot with a time of 25.93.
The Buccaneer Invitational will continue on Saturday with the track events beginning at 9 a.m. and the field events at 10 a.m.
