NEW ORLEANS – UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country teams were honored for their work in the classroom during the 2019 season for being amongst the best in the nation when the All-Academic Teams were announced Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

In total, there were 428 Division I teams honored for their work in the classroom with 237 women's programs and 191 men's programs making the list.

In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

UNC Asheville's women's team posted a cumulative GPA of 3.37 for the fall 2019 semester while UNC Asheville's men posted a 3.01 cumulative GPA.

At the Big South Championships last fall, UNC Asheville's men's team claimed a fourth place finish while the women earned a fifth place finish.

It is now the third consecutive year that the men have finished fourth overall in the Big South.

With their fifth place finish, the women have now finished in the top six in the Big South every year since 2012.
