CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Asheville track and field athlete, Nicholas Teta, has been chosen as the Big South Men's Track Athlete of the Week for his performance last weekend at the Marshall Thundering Herd Invitational. The league made the official announcement, Wednesday, January 29.

UNC Asheville's men's track and field team claimed the first place spot in the two-day meet. The Bulldogs earned 155 points while the second-place team scored only 118.

This is the first career Athlete of the Week honor for the freshman Teta and the first time the Bulldogs have had an Indoor Track Athlete of the Week recipient since Milan Ristic received the honor in 2013.

Teta ran his way into the Bulldog record book over the weekend with a time of 1:53.96 in the 800m. He just narrowly missed the first place spot as he secured the second best time in the event. Teta's time of 1:53.96 is now second all-time in UNC Asheville history sitting just a few seconds behind the top time set by Matthew Harding in 2018.

Teta's time of 1:53.96 in the 800 meter is currently the best in the Big South this season.

Teta also competed in the 4x400 relay that finished in third place with a time of 3:31.94.

UNC Asheville track and field will compete again this weekend at the Buccaneer Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn.
