ASHEVILLE – UNC Asheville head volleyball coach Frederico Santos announced the signing of two additional student-athletes to the 2020 class.

Malina Harris, a setter from Statesville, N.C., and Maddy Johnson, a libero from Winter Springs, Fla., will join UNC Asheville Volleyball ahead of the 2020 season in addition to three future Bulldogs who signed in December.

Malina Harris | Setter | Statesville, N.C. | South Iredell HS
Harris earned distinction as the R&L County Player of the Year as a senior after finishing with 823 assists, 270 digs, 118 kills and 47 aces. She completed her high school career with 2,719 assists.

Harris helped lead South Iredell to a second-place finish in the North Piedmont Conference as a senior, and helped the Vikings to the third round of the 3A playoffs.

Santos on Harris:
"Malina is a strong, athletic player with great setting technique. She will add depth and competition to our setting position and will fight for a starting spot. She has strong leadership skills that will be invaluable to us. We look forward to Malina being a Bulldog and the impact she will make here in the next four years of her collegiate career."

Maddy Johnson | Libero | Winter Springs, Fla. | Winter Springs HS
Johnson comes to UNC Asheville after a standout prep career at Winter Springs High School. As a four-year varsity starter, Johnson set program records for career digs with 1,574, digs in a season with 519, and digs in a match with 47. The 519 digs she recorded as a senior led 6A District 9 and were ninth-most in the state of Florida.

Johnson earned second-team all-conference honors as a sophomore and senior, and was named to the conference all-freshman team. She was named her varsity team's Defensive Player of the Year all four seasons, as well.

She helped lead Winter Springs to a district championship and 6A Region 3 championship during her senior season.

Santos on Johnson:
"Maddy is a very talented defensive player, a relentless competitor with a phenomenal attitude. A very consistent passer, she will be a great asset to our team and will have great impact in the Bulldog program during her collegiate career. Maddy will be in contention for the libero/defensive specialist spot this fall. We are so happy with her decision to be a Bulldog."
