Bulldogs Complete Day One of ETSU Invitational with Two First Place Finishes; Multiple Qualify for Finals Tomorrow

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. – UNC Asheville track and field completed the first day of competition at the ETSU Invitational with some impressive finishes.
The first day of action was highlighted by first place finishes in two different events.
The Bulldogs claimed the top two spots in the men's 800m. Freshman Nicholas Teta secured a first place finish with a time of 1:59.32 and Jacob Starace claimed the second place spot with a time of 2:01.58. Walker Lezotte finished in sixth place with a time of 2:03.92 and Jack Clemens claimed the 10th spot with a time of 2:05.54.
The Bulldogs other first place finish was in the women's triple jump with freshman Kathryn Brown. Brown completed a jump of 11.60m for the top spot and a new personal best jump. Claudia Prieto finished third in the event with a jump of 11.52m which was also a new personal best. The Bulldogs took two of the top three spots in the women's triple jump.
Brown also claimed a second place finish in the women's high jump with a jump of 1.60m while Prieto earned a fourth place finish in the 60 meter prelims with a time of 7.85 to qualify for the finals.
Nick Roberts earned a spot in the finals in the 60m hurdles with a fourth place finish with a time of 8.65.
Three Bulldogs claimed spots in the finals for the men's 400m. Tyree McFalling led the way with a third place finish with a time of 49.94 while Joel Bowers was right on his heels with a time of 50.00 for a fourth place finish. Bryson Riddick was the third Bulldog to earn a spot in the finals with a time of 50.65.
Two Bulldogs earned spots in the women's 400m with Desire Brown leading the way with a fourth place finish and a time of 58.90. Freshman Raven Thurman was the second Bulldog to earn a spot in the finals with a time of 59.49 and a seventh place finish.
In the women's 800m, Alyx Evans and Ava Nkadi both earned top 10 finishes in the event. Evans claimed a sixth place finish with a time of 2:22.99 while Nkadi finished in ninth place with a time of 2:27.54.
Victor Mathuthu earned a third place finish in the men's triple jump. Mathuthu completed a jump of 14.24 meters. Cameron Woodyard finished eighth in the event with a jump of 12.67 meters.
In the men's weight throw, Jack Choiniere completed a throw of 13.48 meters and Solomon McDonald completed a throw of 12.35 meters.
The Bulldogs will be looking to carry the momentum they created on day one into day two of the ETSU Invitational on Saturday. Events are scheduled to begin at 8:35 a.m. Saturday with the 3000m run.
