Bulldogs Set to Host Georgia State on Senior Night
09.06.2019 | Men's Soccer
ASHEVILLE – When UNC Asheville's men's soccer team takes the pitch for its 6 p.m., Saturday, contest against Georgia State, Greenwood Soccer Field is sure to be full of emotion as the team's six seniors will be honored before the match.
Five-student athletes and student manager A.J. Massagee are set to be recognized prior to kickoff of the match, so Bulldog fans are encouraged to be at the field by 5:45 p.m.
Among the student-athletes being honored are team captain Kyle Adams, Luiz Felipe Dantas, Dino Dziergas, Austin Howard and Frank Morales.
Adams, a defender from Rolling Hills Estates, California, has played in both matches this season and has appeared in 46 contests during his career. He has been a stalwart on the back line, and recorded an assist on a free kick in the Bulldogs' most recent match against VMI.
Dantas, a midfielder, came to UNC Asheville from Cuiaba, Brazil, and has been a staple in the lineup for four seasons, appearing in 53 matches. He has five goals during his career, including two game-winners during his freshman campaign.
Dziergas has shown his versatility, moving to the back line this season after playing an attacking role in his first three seasons. The Indian Trail, North Carolina native has appeared in 41-career contests, and recorded an assist on the Bulldogs' first goal of the season at Navy.
Howard, a midfielder from Asheville, has been a regular contributor since he first stepped foot on campus, making 17 appearances and 14 starts as a freshman. As a junior, he scored the game-winning goal against VMI at home.
Morales, a midfielder from Greeley, Colorado, has been a regular on the pitch for the Bulldogs during his four seasons in Asheville, appearing in 45 matches during his career.
Man on the Attack
He may have to wait until next year to get his senior sendoff, but junior forward Tyson Hichman is adding to his biography with each contest. He has scored a goal in each of the first two matches of the season, and his pressure against VMI led to an own-goal and opened the scoring for the Bulldogs.
Scouting the Panthers
Georgia State enters the match undefeated, having recorded victories against Presbyterian (2-1) and Belmont (3-1). Junior forward Aris Briggs has been on a tear, scoring two goals in each of GSU's first two matches.
The Panthers' goalkeeper, Paul Tyson, has recorded six saves on the season, including five against Belmont. The GSU defense has surrendered one goal in each match so for this season on 22 total shots allowed.
