Bulldogs Set to Open 2019 Season at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – UNC Asheville's men's soccer team begins its 2019 campaign when it heads to Annapolis, Maryland, to take on the Midshipmen of the United States Naval Academy in a 7 p.m., Friday contest.
Head coach Mathes Mennell enters his fifth season at the helm of the program, and will have the Bulldogs looking to capitalize on the momentum captured in their final exhibition match of the preseason.
After falling to East Tennessee in their first exhibition match, the Bulldogs rebounded against a talented Marshall squad, scoring a late go-ahead goal to capture a 2-1 victory and a boost of confidence headed into the regular season.
All three of last season's top goal scorers return this season in Izaiah Vignali (4), Taylor Durall (3) and Lane Carroll (3). Freshman Andrew Rossetti has flashed offensive potential throughout preseason, scoring both goals against Marshall and generating solid attempts against ETSU.
The meeting between UNC Asheville and Navy will be the first match between the two programs. Navy enters the 2019 season after finishing the previous campaign 5-11-1, including a 3-5-1 record at home.
