2019 UNC Asheville Volleyball Schedule
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville head coach Frederico Santos released the 2019 Bulldog volleyball schedule on Saturday, June 8, 2019.
The 2019 volleyball schedule features 11 matches at home for the Bulldogs.
"My intention every year with our schedule is to test our group," Santos said. "We want to know things about our team before we get into conference play. I do not think there is any easy match. Everybody that we play is going out there to win, so with a schedule you want to test your team so they are battle-tested before we even get into the heat of the battle in conference play. I think in designing this schedule we did it to prepare as best as we can for conference."
The Bulldogs will officially commence their 2019 campaign by traveling to Atlanta to compete in Georgia Tech's tournament Aug. 30-31. The Bulldogs will face host Georgia Tech of the ACC, Long Beach State of the Big West Conference and Southern of the SWAC at the tournament.
UNC Asheville returns home the next weekend to play host to the UNC Asheville Invitational at the Justice Center Sept. 6-7. The 2019 UNC Asheville Invitational will feature the host Bulldogs along with Eastern Kentucky of the Ohio Valley Conference, North Carolina A&T of the MEAC and Dartmouth of the Ivy League. The Bulldogs will open their annual home tournament by taking on Eastern Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6. The final day of the UNC Asheville Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7 will see the Bulldogs first take on North Carolina A&T at 12:30 p.m. The Bulldogs will close out their home tournament by facing Dartmouth at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7.
The Bulldogs will then play their first single match of the 2019 regular season by hosting South Carolina State of the MEAC at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at the Justice Center.
UNC Asheville travels to Statesboro, Ga. on Sept. 13-14 to play in Georgia Southern's tournament. The Bulldogs will face host Georgia Southern of the Sun Belt and Southern Miss of Conference USA.
The Bulldogs will renew their annual mountain rivalry with Western Carolina of the SoCon at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17 in Cullowhee, N.C. The Bulldogs secured a 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-23, 25-21) win over the Catamounts last season at the Justice Center on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018.
UNC Asheville may also add a match or two the weekend after the Western Carolina match, but as of right now the Bulldogs will next open their 2019 Big South Conference schedule with three consecutive home matches at the Justice Center after the rivalry match with the Catamounts.

UNC Asheville took two of three last year from the Spartans, including a thrilling 3-2 (25-16, 22-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-10) come-from-behind win over USC Upstate in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Big South Volleyball Championship at the Justice Center on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018.
The Bulldogs welcome Winthrop to the Justice Center a few days later for a 6 p.m. match against the Eagles of Winthrop at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4. The Bulldogs split with Winthrop last season, but took a 3-0 (29-27, 25-23, 25-12) Big South road victory over Winthrop on Friday, Oct. 26, 2018 in Rock Hill, S.C.
One day later UNC Asheville hosts the first match of the "Battle of the Bulldogs" at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Justice Center against Gardner-Webb. UNC Asheville took both of the "Battle of the Bulldogs" matches in the 2018 season.
The Bulldogs will hit the road after the first of two Gardner-Webb matches for six straight road matches, starting with a road match at Hampton at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11 in Hampton, Va. The Bulldogs will take on Campbell the next day in Buies Creek, N.C. on Saturday, Oct. 12. The Bulldogs then have a week off before traveling to Spartanburg, S.C. to face USC Upstate at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19.
UNC Asheville will step out of Big South play next for its final non-conference match of the year at South Carolina State at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22 in Orangeburg, S.C. The Bulldogs will close out their six-match road swing on Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26 with road matches at High Point (7 p.m. on Oct. 25) and Radford (4 p.m. on Oct. 26).
UNC Asheville opens the month of November next by welcoming Charleston Southern to the Justice Center for a 6 p.m. match on Friday, Nov. 1. UNC Asheville has swept the season series from Charleston Southern for two straight seasons.
The Bulldogs will welcome the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College to the Justice Center at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2. UNC Asheville last year picked up wins in the final two sets to secure a 3-2 (21-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-19, 15-13) Big South victory over Presbyterian College on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, at the Justice Center.
The second match of the season in the "Battle of the Bulldogs" will be at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8 in Boiling Springs, N.C. The Bulldogs will face Winthrop for the second time on the season at 2 p.m. in Rock Hill, S.C. on Saturday, Nov. 9.

UNC Asheville volleyball won 10 of its last 11 matches to close out the 2018 season.
UNC Asheville's 10-match winning streak that was snapped in its Big South Tournament semifinal loss to High Point was its longest winning streak since 2005.
UNC Asheville's 16 wins in the 2018 season were the most for the Bulldogs since winning 17 in the 2013 season.
