CARY, N.C. – UNC Asheville freshman goalkeeper Jarrett Payne will play this weekend in the 2019 Clash of the Carolinas at WakeMed Soccer Park's Koka Booth Stadium on Saturday, June 29.

Founded in 2007, the match annually features the top boys and girls graduated seniors from North Carolina and South Carolina. The girls match in the annual event starts at 10 a.m. The boys match featuring Payne starts at noon.

The Clash of the Carolinas is the nation's only interstate prep soccer all-star event.

"Really proud for Jarrett to be selected to the Clash of the Carolinas," UNC Asheville men's soccer head coach Mathes Mennell said. "It is a great testament to the stellar prep career he enjoyed at Enka and it is awesome to have our program matriculating players that are worthy of garnering these types of accolades."

A local product out of Candler, N.C., Payne joined the UNC Asheville men's soccer program out of Enka High School as mid-year enrollee in January of 2019.

He played his club soccer for HFC 00 Red. The 6-foot, 155-pound goalkeeper was a two-year team captain at Enka where he was a 2017 and 2018 All-WMAC selection and the 2017 WMAC Goalkeeper of the Year and 2018 Defensive Player of the Year. Payne also has suited up for the Asheville City Soccer Club and he was also an All-State selection and an All-Mid Atlantic Team choice.
