Two Bulldogs Secure Top Five Finishes on Second Day of Big South Conference Championships

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams secured two impressive top five finishes in the 3000m steeplechase on the second day of competition in the Big South Conference Championships on Thursday.
Kelley Coleman finished fifth overall in the women's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:08.14, while Sage Turner finished fourth in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:37.20.
Zach Boone also ran in the men's 3000m steeplechase and finished two spots behind Turner with a time of 9:47.92.
Jack Choiniere finished an impressive seventh overall in the men's shot put with a throw of 14.15 meters.
Julia McAfee and Ke'Shonna Gay both competed in the women's shot put. McAfee completed a throw of 9.77 meters while Gay's throw was 9.68 meters.
Huntyr Hopkins competed in the women's high jump and secured a jump of 1.40 meters.
Tyree McFalling finished second in the men's 400m prelims. The junior was .06 seconds off the top spot with a time of 48.42.
Desire Brown finished in seventh place in the women's 400m prelims with a time of 57.59. Khadeesha Crumbly finished the event with a time of 1:00.38.
In the women's 100m prelims, Kindra Mingo secured a top 10 finish with a time of 12.15, while Asia Washington followed a few spots behind with a time of 12.34. Claudia Prieto Alcaide and Mydison Askew also ran in the event finishing with times of 12.63 and 13.13 respectively.
In the men's 100m prelims, Akin Williams led the Bulldogs with a time of 10.84, while Tim Thorpe finished with a time of 11.30.
Two Bulldogs competed in the men's 110m hurdle prelims. Jeff Blake finished with a time of 15.09 and Nick Roberts finished with a time of 15.27.
In the women's 800m prelims, Alyx Evans led the Bulldogs with a time of 2:19.18 while Kelley Petroski ran a time of 2:45.94.
Blanton Gillespie finished the men's 800m prelims with a time of 2:00.33.
The final day of the Big South Conference Championships will take place on Friday, May 10 on the campus of Winthrop University. All of Friday's events will be finals with the field events beginning at 1 p.m. The track events are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
