Bulldogs Put Together Impressive Finish to Big South Outdoor Track and Field Championships

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams completed the final day of the Big South Conference Championships with multiple top five finishes in the finals at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Complex on Friday, May 10.

Victor Mathuthu just missed on securing a podium in the men's triple jump final. The sophomore jumped 14.05 meters to finish fourth in the event. 

Claudia Prieto Alcaide and Asia Washington shined in the women's triple jump final. Alcaide secured a fifth-place finish with a jump of 11.49 meters while Washington finished sixth with a jump of 11.45 meters.

Graham Parker added his name to the long list of Bulldogs to impress at the Big South Championships with a fifth-place finish in the men's 1500m final with a time of 3:57.64. Sage Turner also ran in the event and finished with a time of 4:02.22.

In the women's 4x100m final, the Bulldog quartet of Alcaide, Washington, Kindra Mingo and Desire Brown finished in sixth place with a time of 47.78. The Bulldog team was less than three seconds off of the top spot and was just over one second away from securing a podium.

In the men's 4x100m final, the Bulldog team of Akin Williams, Lee Goings, Denley Joseph and Tyree McFalling finished 1.41 seconds out of a first-place finish with a time of 41.96.

McFalling finished top five in the men's 400m final with a time 48.64 while Brown finished the women's 400m final with a time of 56.33.

Kelley Coleman secured a ninth-place finish in the women's 5000m final with a time of 18:20.60. Madeline Nichols finished the event with a time of 19:24.06 while Megan Brewer ran a 19:27.12.

Thomas Little finished the men's 5000m final with a seventh-place finish. Little completed the event with a time of 15:32.14. Graham Parker finished 11th with a time of 15:43.21 while Zach Boone finished 12th with a time of 12:45.49.

The Bulldog team of Mingo, Brown, Alyx Evans and Khadeesha Crumbly ran the women's 4x400m final in 4:04.36.

In the men's 4x400m final, McFalling, Joseph, Grant Lindsay and Nick Roberts were one second away from securing a podium by finishing with a time of 3:18.41.
